My wife and I bought the Kettler 8852-600 Kiddi-o Racer Trike as a present for our grandson for his third birthday. We had a major difficulty with the trike, which was made even worse by HealthCheck Systems Inc draconian Customer Service policies and their very unhelpful Customer Service agent. My recommendations are simple. Don't purchase this trike and don't purchase anything from HealthCheck Systems Inc. I'll explain why.The trike arrived on time and we eagerly started to put it together. Immediately we had a problem. The handlebars were very loose in the frame. We had to fix that with duct tape. As soon as our grandson started to ride the trike another problem arose. At the slightest incline he couldn't make any headway. We investigated and found that the tyres were not as advertised. They are advertised as "air tyres" on the Amazon page and "rubberised" on the HealthCheck Systems web page and so we were expecting rubberised pump up tyres. The tyres on the trike are actually plastic and do not pump up. They have very poor traction and slip at the slightest incline. I immediately contacted HealthCheck Systems and explained the problem. I wanted to exchange the trike for a different trike, which they confirmed did indeed have pump up tyres. Of course, I was prepared to pay the small additional amount. HealthCheck Systems told me that they would not reimburse me because the trike had been used. Of course, I argued that since the trike had been incorrectly described they should waive this requirement. The HealthCheck Systems agent was very rude and would not listen to me. She kept speaking over me and just repeated their unhelpful policy. At one point in the conversation, I had to say "You should be aware that one of the basic principles of customer service is to listen to your customer". It didn't make any difference.
I contacted Kettler, the manufactures of the trike. They confirmed that the trike had been incorrectly described on the Amazon web page and sent me an email to that effect with an apology. I forwarded the email to HealthCheck Systems, but they still wouldn't help me. At this point I gave up on them and through the Help links on the Amazon web page contacted an Amazon agent. She triggered the A-Z Amazon Buyer Guarantee Program and Amazon contacted HealthCheck Systems who eventually agreed to reimburse me. But I had yet one more disagreement with HealthCheck Systems. They tried to withhold 10% for "restocking". Again I contacted Amazon and they resolved the problem.
We purchased the Schwinn Roadster 12-Inch Trike instead. Not only is this cheaper but it is much better. It is constructed better and it looks better too. Our grandson loves it! So, in the end, we managed to make the exchange but it was a lot of hassle and made far worse than it needed to be by HealthCheck Systems. On the other hand, the Amazon agents were always helpful and the Amazon Buyer Guarantee scheme works well if you have this kind of problem.
